Ride the rails with us this summer to Churchill to view approximately 3, 000 beluga whales in Manitoba’s Churchill River where these very social creatures playfully interact with the visitors! The Belugas come to the warm waters to give birth and feed on capelin & Cisco in the summer months. Belugas are very social mammals creating a magical moment as we observe them from the zodiac, boat & kayak with Sea North. The kayak tour provides a spiritual moment having hundreds of belugas swimming around you! Novice kayakers also welcome to experience this once in a lifetime moment! The zodiac also offers a surface view of these playful creatures as they skim the surface enjoying the bubbles from the zodiac. A Boat tour offers a different perspective looking down at the pods instead of eye level. Half way through the tour the boat docks at the Prince of Wales Fort which has stood on guard for the past 250 years! A Parks Canada Interpreter provides our group with a glimpse into the past within the walls as life as a fur trader! Beyond the River experience the tundra comes alive in the summer you will discover the landscape turning green and the fireweed is bright purple creating the perfect backdrop for additional wildlife viewing! While the beluga whales are plentiful you may also have sightings of polar bears, Arctic & red fox, snowy owl, Arctic hare and ptarmigans! Journey north with us in comfort in a Via Rail Sleeper car departing Thompson to the shores of Hudson Bay where your Arctic adventure awaits you! We have taken care of all the planning and packaged the ultimate summer get-a-way to the Arctic! Our Professional Certified Tour Director meets group in Thompson ensuring all tour details are running smoothly while accompanying group. Sit back and relax as the boreal forest turns into tundra from the dome car windows and your heart falls in love with the wilderness & wildlife of the Arctic. Dates & prices below.
